Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area situated in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" area. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large region that runs from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently mentioned, but her brief visit to the West Island did not last long. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She had a dream to be a dancer however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. After I outgrew the male dancers, I decided to quit. Some former dancers switch into acting. In Brugel's case it was the nudge of the drama instructor at her high school which pushed her in the right direction. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for school's annual production. Following a trial, she ended up as the main character of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her BA in Fine Arts at York University. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on both small and large screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the part of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
